Adverse Events Tied to Unsafe Practices with Injection Therapies

The Joint Commission has put out a Sentinel Event Alert on unsafe practices tied to injection therapies. The CDC has found 49 cases of hepatitis in patients undergoing injection therapies, and the Joint Commission has found many cases in its Sentinel Event Database of the spread of hepatitis and other blood-borne pathogens due to unsafe practices with single-use and multi-use vials for injection therapies.

Home Health Care Payments Will Be Cut in Proposed Rule Change

Home health agencies will see a large cut in payments if the proposed rule change by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services goes through. While there would be a 2.2% increase in payments, there also would be a $485 million decrease through changes to the 60-day episode rate.
